In many places, gyms have shut their doors or moved classes outside due to the pandemic. I recently got back to my spin studio, but at first, it was tough getting used to the new rules.
Even though I completely agree with keeping everyone safe and understand the need for these new measures, it was still hard seeing all my favorite parts of group fitness change so much. Wearing gloves and masks while cycling is definitely more challenging. Plus, the shared anxiety and worry among everyone because of what’s happening in the world doesn’t help.
During the class, there were moments when I felt a bit down, but I kept reminding myself how thankful I am to be able to ride, join this class, and be on this bike.
When it comes to fitness and health, we have to adapt to these new circumstances. Staying committed to health and wellness is essential. We can’t just give up—finding safe and effective ways to work out is important for everyone’s happiness and success.
Besides checking which places are open near you, take some time to think about what you’re comfortable doing to meet your fitness goals right now. Also, when planning your fitness routine, think about who you live with or see often. It’s crucial to make decisions about your quarantine habits after considering how they might impact others in your household.
With more free time than usual, now might be a good opportunity to create a sustainable fitness plan as a family or work on a realistic nutrition plan that you don’t usually have time for. Despite the uncertainty and fear of the moment, there is always a silver lining.
I’d say the silver lining now is time. When you feel overwhelmed, try focusing on the positives. Think about what you can do rather than what you can’t, and what you have instead of what you don’t. Consider how you can make this period as productive and beneficial as possible. Life goes on, and so should you.
Finally, try writing down things you’re grateful for each day. I started a gratitude journal, and it’s helped me stay grounded during these challenging times. If you need support, feel free to reach out. Thanks for reading, and stay tuned!
