How many times have you spent an hour at the gym but felt like you didn’t really push yourself? It happens to all of us because we try to do too many things at once during our workouts.

Multi-tasking can ruin a workout before it even begins. You might feel like you’re putting in the time, but really, you’re just wasting it. If you want to get the most out of your workout, stop multi-tasking. If you need to mix things up, try super setting exercises with little to no rest in between.

Distractions during your workout can keep you from building muscle and burning calories because they let your heart rate drop back down. Keep your heart rate elevated to burn the most calories and get the best results. This concept, known as the afterburn effect or EPOC, is real and effective.

Efficient workouts that don’t take hours are key. Being focused and making the most of your time is crucial, especially when your schedule is tight. Shorter, more effective workouts are not only easier to stick to, but they also deliver great results.

Next time you work out at home, leave your phone in another room and turn on the radio instead. Commit 20 minutes to a hard, focused workout without any distractions. If that seems tough, at least try to stick to one playlist without constantly checking your phone.

Give it your all without distractions. After you’re done, then you can check your social media and share your achievements. Use that workout time to focus solely on yourself, your movements, your reps, and the feeling of getting stronger.
