We’ve had the privilege of featuring Alexis DeJoria before. Not only is she a top racecar driver, but she’s also incredibly fit! We were fortunate that she took some time out of her busy schedule to talk about her exercise and nutrition routines. Here are some insights from someone who’s always on the move.
Alexis’s journey into motorsports began with her love for it. She attended a drag race at 16 and fell in love with nitro Funny Cars. After spending a few years working for the family business post-high school, her passion for driving persisted, so she decided to pursue it. She attended driving school, worked her way up, and now she’s living her dream.
Fitness is crucial for her. Drag racing is physically demanding and requires mental toughness. Alexis believes that being physically fit directly impacts mental strength and overall health.
Since turning professional four years ago, Alexis has intensified her fitness regime. Her schedule is hectic, with 24 weekends a year on the road. When she’s home, she works out daily. On the road, she adapts by using hotel gyms or working out in her motorcoach. She believes staying fit is about maintaining your routine wherever you are. Even if she can’t do her usual workouts on the road, racing itself is a significant part of her fitness.
One challenge of having a consistent fitness routine is that there’s no excuse to skip a workout, even when traveling. She emphasizes that alternative exercises can replace missing equipment, so there’s no reason to miss a session.
Alexis also follows a disciplined diet. She avoids bad carbs, drinks fresh-pressed veggie juices, and stays away from super fatty foods, though she occasionally enjoys pasta. Generally, she sticks to a healthy eating plan.
A new initiative this year is expanding their ‘Free Mammograms for the Fans’ program for Breast Cancer Awareness month in October. Previously, they partnered with Nevada Health Centers offering free mammograms to female ticket holders over 40 in Vegas. This year, they’ll also include the NHRA Texas Fall Nationals in Dallas.
For Alexis, it all boils down to common sense: what you eat affects how you feel. Eating heavy, fattening foods leads to feeling sluggish. Discipline in eating right and regular exercise is key.
Her favorite drink is the Perfect Patrón Margarita, a refreshing mix of Roca Patrón Añejo, lime juice, and simple syrup on ice with a salt rim and lime garnish. It’s a drink she learned to make recently and is her father’s favorite.
We thank Alexis for sharing her insights with us and wish her the best for the rest of the season!
