The holidays are here! Joan Pagano has some easy and effective fitness tips to help you stay in shape during this busy season. Try them out and conquer the holidays!
The holiday season can really throw off your fitness goals with all the parties, travel, and changes to your routine. But don’t worry, you can stay on track if you plan ahead. Here are 10 tips to help you maintain your fitness:
1. Make movement a daily habit. Consistency is key. The little things you do every day add up.
2. Think of activities instead of workouts. Incorporate movement into your day by walking to work, taking the stairs, carrying groceries, and doing housework with energy. It all counts!
3. Aim for 30 minutes of moderate activity most days of the week. You can break it into smaller sessions, like two or three 10-15 minute walks, which are just as effective as longer workouts.
4. Simple exercises can give you a full-body workout. Do 10-15 repetitions of push-ups, squats, and crunches every other day. If that’s too easy, add another set.
5. Avoid the negative effects of sitting too long. Stand up and move around for five minutes every hour.
6. Track your steps with your phone or a pedometer. Gradually increase your daily steps by 1000 every week until you reach 10,000.
7. Use small moments throughout your day to do a few exercises, whether you’re at the kitchen sink, at your desk, or relaxing on the couch.
8. Stand on one leg while brushing your teeth to improve your balance.
9. Do range-of-motion exercises in the shower. The warm, moist air helps loosen up stiff hands and fingers.
10. Stretch at the end of the day to release tension and get better sleep. Stretch every day if possible, or at least 2-3 times a week.
You don’t need to do intense workouts or only eat celery during the holidays. Just start incorporating some of these fitness tips to help you maintain your shape and enjoy the season!
