From the Founder: Achieving Powerful Success in Just 10 Minutes

Big, intimidating goals can be really scary, whether it’s losing 20 pounds, reading your book instead of binge-watching TV, or aiming for a new career. These goals are daunting because they’re huge and can change your life.

This fear holds you back from even starting, and it happens to everyone. I used to feel this way too until I read “10 Minute Time Management: The Stress-Free Guide to Getting Stuff Done” by Ric Thompson. It’s a quick read packed with great tips for tackling long-term goals.

The idea is to start with small, manageable chunks of time, like 10-minute intervals or even just 5 minutes a day. Does that seem doable to you?

Breaking things down into smaller pieces is key. It might sound obvious, but have you actually tried it? Big projects seem overwhelming and often take longer than expected. According to Ric Thompson, you should estimate the time needed for a project and then multiply that number by 1.5.

So yeah, our goals can be scary and usually take more time than we think. That’s where the 10-minute rule comes in handy. It breaks down your big goal into smaller, bite-sized pieces that are easier to tackle.

Think about how often you’ve avoided cleaning your house because it feels like it will take forever. But once you start, you get in the zone and before you know it, your whole house is clean. Goals work the same way—starting is often the hardest part, but once you get going, it’s not as bad as you thought. Ten minutes can easily turn into 30 minutes or an hour. The main thing is that those 10 minutes help you get started.

When you only have to work on something for 10 minutes, you’re more likely to actually do it. From my experience with DIY Active over the past seven years, I’ve learned that starting is usually the toughest part.
