We’ve had the pleasure of featuring Alexis DeJoria on our site before. As a top-notch racecar driver and one of the fittest athletes in the field, we were thrilled that she took some time to share her exercise and nutrition regimen amidst her hectic schedule. Here are some on-the-go fitness tips from someone who is constantly on the move. Read this quick interview with Alexis DeJoria!
I fell in love with motorsports at a young age. When I was 16, I attended a drag race and was captivated by nitro Funny Cars. I hoped that one day I could be where I am now. After working in the family business right after high school, I still felt the urge to drive, so I pursued it. I went to driving school, climbed the ranks, and here I am today.
Being in great shape is crucial. Drag racing is physically demanding and requires mental strength as well. I believe that physical fitness is directly linked to mental health and strength.
Since turning professional four years ago, I’ve really intensified my fitness routine. Our schedule is tough, with 24 weekends on the road each year. When I’m home, I work out daily, and on the road, I’ve developed fitness routines that I can perform in a hotel gym or on my motorcoach.
Staying fit while traveling is essential. Even though I can’t do everything I do at home, I do as much as possible. Racing itself is a rigorous activity that helps maintain my fitness.
One challenge of having a consistent fitness routine away from home is that you can’t make excuses. You can’t skip a workout because you don’t have specific equipment. There are always alternatives to keep you moving.
Regarding nutrition, I aim to maintain a healthy diet. I avoid bad carbs, drink fresh-pressed veggie juices, and steer clear of high-fat foods. However, it’s fine to indulge occasionally in something like pasta. Overall, I stick to a balanced eating plan.
This year, we’re expanding the ‘Free Mammograms for the Fans’ program in October, which is Breast Cancer Awareness month. For the past two years, we’ve partnered with Nevada Health Centers to offer free mammograms at the racetrack in Vegas. This year, we’re adding a location at the NHRA Texas Fall Nationals in Dallas.
It’s common sense that what you put into your body affects how you feel. Eating heavy, fatty foods can make you feel sluggish. Discipline in diet and regular exercise is key.
My favorite Patrón drink is the Perfect Patrón Margarita, which I learned to make recently during a guest bartending appearance in Chicago. It’s my father’s favorite drink and includes one shot of Roca Patrón Añejo, lime juice, simple syrup, served on ice with a salt rim and lime garnish – very refreshing.
We want to extend our thanks to Alexis for sharing her insights with us! Keep up the fantastic work, and best of luck for the rest of the season!
