Whether it’s because of a demanding career or the busy life of a parent, everyone needs some “me” time to unwind and clear their mind. Andie shares how she discovered her own “me” time and the positive impact it’s had on her life.
Do you ever wake up feeling completely drained? You roll out of bed already tired, only to be hit with a whirlwind of demands, and it’s not even 7 AM yet. “Mom, where are my shoes?” (They’re by the door where you left them.) “Mom, what’s for breakfast?” (You can pour yourself some cereal.) “Honey, did you iron my shirt?” (Yes, it’s hanging in the closet; if not, the iron is right next to it.)
Some days, I just want to crawl back into bed with a good book and some chocolate and stay there all day. Don’t judge!
Honestly, sometimes it takes a lot of courage just to get out of bed and face the day ahead. But over the past year, I’ve started making small changes that have made a huge difference. Now, I wake up ready to tackle the day, not feeling like a worn-out victim, but as a woman with energy and determination. Finding a work-life balance by putting myself first has made me proud and happy to be me.
Taking care of yourself is essential. When you prioritize your own well-being, you become more balanced and better equipped to care for those who rely on you. We, as women, often give and give without expecting much in return. Focusing on ourselves helps us reset and regain balance. Initially, I felt guilty about setting aside time for myself — it’s in a mom’s DNA to feel guilty. But I realized that without making a change, I’d either have a breakdown or constantly feel like a wreck. I had to set aside time for myself to rebalance.
Find whatever it is that makes you feel like you. Not as a mom, employee, boss, or partner, but as you. For me, working out every morning is key to my daily balance. Driving to and from the gym alone gives me time to think and enjoy some quiet. At the gym, I put on my earbuds and work out any frustrations. This solo time gives me the peace and energy I need to tackle the day.
Sometimes, I sleep in and miss the gym, and my day feels off. This daily routine, though seemingly small, has made a huge difference in my life. Some may think it’s crazy to wake up early and hit the gym, but that’s okay!
Find whatever makes you happy and refreshes you. It might be taking a nap, reading a good book, or going for a walk alone. Whatever it is, make time for those moments to be alone with yourself. Cherish those moments just as much as you cherish the times when everything is going smoothly.
