We recently released Part I of “Your Weight Loss Diary,” which followed 3-4 women as they motivated each other to lose weight using the Home Burn system. Now, they’re back for Part II, making significant progress while facing daily challenges. Let’s dive into Part II of Your Weight Loss Diary:
Today was all about arms and shoulders again. My muscles were screaming afterward, which I’ll take as a sign that I pushed them to exhaustion.
FB2 is struggling with the feeling that everyone else is losing more weight than she is. She hasn’t seen the same results as FB1, despite starting the exercise program together in January. We’re doing our best to keep her motivated—it just takes time, although I think she’s getting frustrated with this phase.
FB1 had to leave work early to pick up her sick grandbaby from daycare, so she missed our lunchtime workout. However, around 9:30 p.m., she texted us to say she knew we were counting on her, so she forced herself off the couch and got the workout done. Peer pressure can really help with staying on track for weight loss.
My friend Pam, who joins me for Wednesday evening exercise classes, is also joining our 30-day team. She’s been sick for the past two weeks but tried to catch up by doing two workouts yesterday. Her body wasn’t happy about that today, but she’ll be joining us for the Day 10 workout. We’ve already decided we’ll be repeating the 30-day challenge so she can get the full experience next time.
FB2 has had back problems for a while, but after 10 days on the challenge, her back feels much better. She even mentioned she can now put on her underwear in the morning without any pain—an unexpected bonus!
The fitness lab went well today. After work, I used the elliptical while watching old episodes of ‘Chips.’ I used to love that show, and thinking about why helped me distract myself enough to burn 300 calories.
Today is supposed to be a rest day for the challenge, but Pam and I have class tonight. At least we don’t have to double up with both a lunch workout and an evening workout. There needs to be a limit on how much activity I can do in one day, even if that limit is more mental than physical.
FB1 and FB2 are doing great. They’ve started interval walking and jogging, with FB1 managing 3-minute intervals and not feeling too overwhelmed. FB2 even texted me about how excited she is to exercise every day—she might be becoming an exercise addict. It’s inspiring to see her so motivated.
Weigh-in day results after the first 12 days of the challenge:
– FB1 lost 1.6 pounds this week, making a total loss of 3 pounds.
– FB2 lost 1.4 pounds this week, for a total of 3.4 pounds lost.
– I didn’t lose any weight this week, which is disappointing. But I’m still down 2.4 pounds since day one, so I’ll focus on increasing my activity and watching my diet more closely.
Pam has only been doing the challenge for two days, so we’ll wait until the next weigh-in to see her results.
It’s Saturday, and everyone texted each other after completing the fitness lab. With busy weekends ahead, fitting in workouts will be challenging, but we’re all committed.
My weekend started with my youngest son’s birthday dinner last night (yes, I had dessert). Tonight, I have a mother/son night at my oldest son’s fraternity, and there will be dessert again. Stay strong, Connie…
I did have dessert—red velvet cupcake with cream cheese icing. I kept my calories low during the day by having a protein bar for breakfast and a protein shake for lunch. I stayed busy all day, so it wasn’t hard, and the cupcake was totally worth it.
This morning, I went to my great-nephew’s baptism, followed by a deliciously greasy fried chicken lunch with all the fixings. Then, I helped with the youth group chili supper at church. I was so busy that I didn’t take time to eat.
By 6:30 p.m., I was starving. I could have grabbed carrot sticks, but instead, I went for a piece of banana cream pie within arm’s reach. It’s got bananas, so it can’t be all bad, right? Later, I had a piece of spice cake because it was going to be thrown away, and I hate wasting food. When I got home, I ate a piece of my mom’s homemade blackberry cobbler because blackberries are healthy! I won’t weigh myself tomorrow.
REST DAY!! Not the best timing after my weekend of no willpower. I’ve got it out of my system, and I’m getting back on track today. I want that scale to show a loss on Friday!
Today has been busy, and I haven’t had much time to interact with my team. I’ll try to do better tomorrow.
No dessert for me tonight—or tomorrow night, or the night after that.
