We all work so hard to stick to our fitness and nutrition plans during the week, but when the weekend arrives, that determination often fades away. Without a set routine, weekends can easily throw us off track from our fitness goals. It’s important to stay focused and tackle the weekend head-on if we want to stay on course. Here are some practical tips to help you stay on track during the weekend.
Just like you plan your meals for the workweek, prepare a few go-to meals for the weekend. This can save you when you’re feeling hungry or bored and need a quick, healthy, and tasty snack.
Since you probably have more free time on weekends, schedule a workout. Weekend workouts can be some of the best because you can dedicate more time and really push yourself, whether you’re at the gym or doing an at-home workout.
Be realistic about your weekend diet. It’s okay to indulge a little, but try not to go overboard. Enjoy your weekend treats in moderation and stick to your nutrition plan as closely as possible.
Keep yourself active. If you can’t make it to the gym, make sure to do something that gets you moving. Take your kids outside for a game of touch football, rake leaves, or work on that to-do list around the house.
Make time to get up and get a little sweaty. After activities like hiking with your dog, a cold drink might sound perfect. Just remember to drink alcohol in moderation as it’s loaded with calories and sugars that can quickly add up.
Consider having a couple of protein shakes over the weekend. They can be great as a quick snack or even as a meal replacement (add some fruit) if you’re extremely busy.
Stay hydrated throughout the weekend. It’s easy to forget to drink your usual amount of water, but aim to keep up with your 8 glasses a day (or whatever rule you follow).
Finally, and perhaps most importantly, relax and get some sleep! If you don’t make living a healthy lifestyle enjoyable and manageable, it’s going to be tough to stick with your nutrition and exercise plans.
Stay healthy both mentally and physically. You’ve got this, weekend workout warrior!
