It’s 2018… Can you believe how quickly 2017 flew by? Time seems to be speeding up every year. I’m only 30, so I really hope it slows down a bit! As you might have guessed, this post is about setting and achieving goals.
So, who else feels overwhelmed by their 2018 goals already? No worries! It happens to everyone. You start off with great intentions but sometimes don’t plan thoroughly to ensure you succeed. The good news is, it’s an easy problem to fix! Here are three simple ways to get back on track and achieve your 2018 goals.
First, grab that cute, sparkly notebook you picked up at Target and jot down at least three things you’d like to accomplish this year. These can range from health (physical, mental, spiritual) to organization, financial goals, home improvement, professional development, or improving relationships.
If you’re struggling to come up with ideas, consult some trusted friends. Self-improvement is a journey that requires seeing both the good and bad in yourself, and friends can offer valuable insights.
Next, think about how you’ll achieve your goals and how you’ll measure success. In 2017, for example, I aimed to lose 20 pounds. It was a solid goal, but I lacked a concrete plan; “eat healthier” was too vague. Not surprisingly, I ended up gaining 7 pounds.
This year, I’m tackling the same goal but with specific, measurable steps:
1. Attend 5 fitness classes per week, no excuses. If you’re new to fitness, I highly recommend starting with something fun like Zumba.
2. Meal prep for 4 weeks each month. This means preparing meals for 6 days a week, which helps me make healthier choices, save money, and manage time better.
3. Post my progress on Facebook to get encouragement and tips from friends.
Sharing your goals makes you more likely to achieve them, according to science. So, go ahead and share your journey with friends; accountability matters. For instance, after a stressful day at work last Thursday, I wanted to skip my Barre class for margaritas and chips. Thankfully, my friends didn’t let me slack off, and I met my fitness goal for the first week of 2018!
Remember, not all Facebook cheerleaders will hold you accountable. Choose people you trust to keep you on track and tell you the hard truths when needed.
At DIY Active, we want to help you succeed this year. What are your goals? What topics would you like us to cover, or what fitness products should we review or launch in 2018?
We appreciate your readership and look forward to helping you crush your 2018 goals.
