Wow, it’s already 2018 — where on earth did 2017 go? Time seems to fly by faster each year. At just 30 years old, I hope this trend slows down a bit! Anyway, as the title suggests, let’s talk about goals.
Anyone else already feeling overwhelmed by their 2018 goals? Don’t worry, you’re not alone. It happens to all of us. We set goals with the best intentions but often skip the critical steps needed to achieve them.
The good news is, getting back on track is easier than you think! Here are three simple tips to help you crush your 2018 goals.
First, if you haven’t done this yet, grab that cute, sparkly notebook you snagged at Target (even though most things there aren’t just $1 anymore), and jot down at least three things you want to achieve this year. Think about areas like health (physical, mental, spiritual), organization, finances, home improvement, professional development, and relationships.
If you can’t think of anything to improve on, ask some trusted friends. You’re missing out on self-improvement if you can’t see both your strengths and weaknesses. Trust me, there’s plenty of both!
Next, plan how you’ll achieve these goals and how you’ll measure your success. For example, last year I aimed to lose 20 pounds but had no plan other than “eat healthier”—way too vague. Unsurprisingly, I gained 7 pounds instead.
This year, I have the same goal but with specific, measurable steps:
1) Attend 5 fitness classes per week, no excuses. If you’re new to fitness, I recommend trying Zumba.
2) Meal prep 4 weeks per month, prepping meals for 6 days each week. This not only helps me make better choices but also saves money and time.
3) Share my progress on Facebook so my friends can cheer me on and offer encouragement and tips.
Sharing your goals makes you more likely to achieve them. Accountability is crucial. For example, I had a super stressful day at work recently and wanted to skip my Barre class for some margaritas and chips. Thankfully, my friends held me accountable, and I made it to the class, hitting my five-class goal for the first week of 2018!
Posting progress on social media isn’t just for cheerleaders—select people who will genuinely keep you accountable. These trusted individuals won’t hesitate to call you out if you’re straying from your path.
At DIY Active, we want to help you succeed this year. What are your goals? What topics would you like us to cover, or what fitness products should we review or launch in 2018?
We appreciate your readership and are excited to help you achieve your 2018 goals, whatever they may be!
